Editor’s note: I’ve had the great opportunity to visit Japan twice in the last five years, first in 2016 and again in 2018 and with the start of the Olympic Games in Tokyo I wanted to revisit those trips and share some of the pictures that I may or may not have already.
It should come as no surprise that while meandering around the streets of Tokyo in 2018 I would stumble upon a car show.
Seeing jaw-dropping vehicles around Tokyo was a daily occurrence. However, something seemed different about this succession of increasingly cool cars that continually passed by. The cacophony of engines revving and idling echoed against the high rises.
Following the sights and sounds I found the 11th annual Coppa Di Tokyo. The rally, held in late November each year, featured 110 exotic, classic and quirky cars. Participants take a two-hour loop around the city before returning to an area of Shiodome, Tokyo, known as “Italia City.”
What was really incredible was how the cars were displayed, nearly on top of each other.
It was a lot to see and hear. Definitely different and unexpected.
